In cosmopolitan Tehran, people spend a lot of time in the car. In one shot, we follow the journey of a married couple and a good friend. The mood is spontaneous and humorous. After an inappropriate practical joke with a mobile phone, the inside of the car changes from a relaxed private space into a nerve-wracking cookie tin stuck in traffic. Italian premiere

THE BOXING GIRLS OF KABUL by Ariel Nasr – documentary

A courageous group of young Afghan women risk persecution to become world-class boxers, training without even the most basic of facilities. Inspired by their coach who was once an Olympic contender, the girls dream about winning medals for their country and a shot at the 2012 Olympics. The film shadows them closely over the course of a year, following three young contenders to their first competition. But when Afghan TV covers a medal won by one of the girls, and the news reports women being stoned in other parts of the country, their lives and their families are threatened. Italian premiere

It never occurred to Nidal and Lilibeth that the day of her arrival to Damascus-the sixteenth of March, would be the day preceding the announcement of the uprising in Syria. Moreover, it never crossed their minds that the film which speaks of the fates of Syrian women, who have declared rebellion and revolution for their freedom, would continue with other women who are now making their own revolution. The three friends part to make their own way in life, but before long it looks as though their futures will founder in a maelstrom of violence, greed, jealousy and betrayal.
