MASHROU’ LEILA BIO:
Unique, that’s the word that comes to mind when you run into this young Lebanese group on the street. Five musicians who, with an energy so great that it’s quickly contagious, with the power of their sound and the charisma of their leader will give you the exciting feeling that you are witnessing the birth of a great rock group. Pervasive guitars, keyboards as clear as fugues, stubborn and persistent violins, minimalist electric sounds lead by the brilliant voice of Hamed Sino who raps out poetic refrains like hymns to joy and to freedom of expression. If the Arab world is searching for an identity, there is no doubt that Mashrou’ Leila can point the way. After the Arab Spring, Mashrou’ Leila became the incubator – a hatchery – of identity and of demands for a freer, more open world playing to packed houses in Beirut, Paris, Amsterdam, Montréal, Geneva, Tunis, Amman, Dubai, Barcelona and at international festivals like Byblos, Paleo, Baalbeck, BabelMed, Exit…
The group has already produced three albums, Mashrou’ Leila (2008), El Hal Romancy (2011) and Raasük (2013), the last album that was recorded in the Hotel2Tango studios in Montreal and is distributed in Europe by Harmonia Mundi.
Between 2013 and  2014, Mashrou’ Leila have performed – among other places – at the Apolo (Barcelona), The Garage (London), New Morning (Paris), Metropolis (Montréal), Roman Theatre (Amman), Festival Liban Jazz (Beirut), Hotel de Ville (Paris), Babylon (Istanbul), Le National (Montréal), La Cigale (Paris), Royal Muhammad Ali Club (Cairo), La Maroquinerie (Paris), Paradiso (Amsterdam), Big Day Out Rock Festival (Doha), and the DU World Music Festival (Dubai).
