New edition of the workshop dedicated to the development of film documentaries in collaboration with Greenhouse. It is now open the selection of the 12 projects that will be supervised by international experts during the one-to-one meetings scheduled on Saturday, April 12th.
With a special focus on TRAILER, DEVELOPMENT and FINANCING
In Florence, on the occasion of the fifth edition of Middle East Now – the festival on films, documentaries, visual arts on the contemporary Middle East that will be held from 9 to 14 April, 2014, will host the second edition of the workshop on documentary film, in collaboration with Greenhouse, the groundbreaking development program for documentary filmmakers from the Middle East and North Africa. The Doc Lab is an event organized in collaboration with FST – Fondazione Sistema Toscana and Festival dei Popoli.
At this edition, the DOC LAB – scheduled on Saturday, April 12 – will focus on one-to-one meetings dedicated to the development of documentary projects, tutoring on trailers and financing.
12 projects will be selected – at a good level of development, about the most diverse content a and subjects, and NOT necessarily related to the Middle East – and during the DOC LAB directors / producers will have the opportunity to meet individually international experts in the world of documentary, to get practical advice on the development of their projects, on the presentation of a trailer and possible fund raising channels.
GREENHOUSE, partner of the project, it was initiated and led by the New Fund for Cinema and Television (NFCT) in Israel and its international partners from Morocco, Spain, France, the Netherlands, and Turkey. The program nurtures talented filmmakers and supports them to tell their extraordinary stories using their unique voices. It has developed and promoted in 8 years of activity more than 20 documentaries, and among them there is prominent documentary Five Broken Cameras, the Palestinian/Israeli co-production focusing on the non-violent resistance movement in the West Bank, nominated for Best Documentary at the 2013 Academy Awards.
Among the professionals who will hold the one-to-one meetings:
Sigal Yehuda, director of GreenHouse Film Center
Bruni Burres, New York based film producer and senior consultant at the Sundance Documentary Programme
Hans Robert Eisenhauer, German producer and former Head of THEMA at ZDF/ARTE
and other experts to be announced in the next coming days.
THE PROGRAMME
Starting with a general introduction on the key elements for the success of a documentary project, the proposals will then be analyzed in detail, through individual meetings with the different tutors, who will offer their “creative” and practical advice.
In particular, the Doc Lab will focus on the following points:
1) Analysis and presentation of the idea and the context of a documentary project;
2 ) the main aspects related to the production of an effective trailer;
3 ) information on financing and the international market.
The Doc Lab will be held Saturday, April 12, 2014, from 9:30am to 3:00 pm (location to-be-confirmed)
and will be held in ENGLISH.
The projects can have the most diverse content, and should not necessarily be linked to the Middle East.
